If you know me well, you may know that I have a passion for ministry. I love to be a part of sharing God’s story. I love the look on a child’s face during VBS week. I love new ideas and helping people move into new places in their walk with Christ whether they be students or adults. It’s my passion. Knowing all of this, I must admit that lately God has really been tugging at my heart. I’m talking like a burden I haven’t ever felt.
Back in August, I decided (after much prayer) that it was time to go back to school. I enrolled as a graduate seminary student at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. The first of the “Never Would I Evers…”. So here I am one semester away from having my Master’s degree in Christian Ministry. My schooling has opened my eyes to many new things in ministry and I’m learning alot! I hope to one day be able to share this knowledge with other ministries.
Last month, I found out about a conference in Loveland, CO at Group Publishing’s headquarters. It was all about being an equipping church, leadership styles, etc., etc….right up my alley! This would become the next “Never Would I Ever…” Yet again…I did. I enrolled in what is known as the Equipping Institute at Group Publishing. It is a series of courses that teaches people (like me) who want to see their church thrive how to lead in a way that builds an equipping culture within their church. Now, I do realize that this probably means absolutely nothing to you. To me, it is a step towards my calling. I’m simply adding tools to my ministry toolbox to be the best at what God has called me to be. I’m a firm believer that when God gives you a calling, you go after it. You dig deep to find every resource and opportunity to learn and grow in your calling. I’m going after mine. Where will I end up? I have no idea! That’s a part of the journey. That’s what makes it a God story! So, today was day 1 at the equipping institute and I’d like to leave you with just a few of the points we talked about. In all of this, I’m discovering more about who I am as a leader, current church culture, and ways to utilize our God-given abilities to maximize the ministry.
- Equipping ministry is about growing people in Christ, not filling slots to accomplish ministry needs.
- Every person has a ministry. Therefore they aren’t “just volunteers,” they’re ministers! Adopt that mindset!
- The equipping model moves from “Pastor as CEO” to “Pastor as deployer.”
- If you aim at nothing…you’ll hit it every time!
- Change is about transitioning from where you are now to where you want to be.
- Everyone has a behavior style which impacts our leadership. To be effective as a leader, you’ve got to be flexible in dealing with all kinds.
Just a side note…I’m excited because we’re expecting 3-5 inches of snow tonight!!!! AND, I’m loving every minute of my time here. God definitely put me here for such a time as this. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds. -Kindall
